Andrew Alexander King:
From Detroit to Nazaré & Chamonix

Andrew Alexander King. How do we go about describing him? Infectiously positive? Always smiling? Well, yeah. But they feel like the easy options as you’ll see in this week’s Pack Heavy, Chase Light.

‘Who you should be better at is yourself. If Andrew sat down with Andrew from like a year ago, who I was last year should be like ‘Dude, you’re freaking killing it’.’

There’s being passionate about self-improvement, and then there’s Andrew Alexander King. Whether it’s on a personal level, or pursuing his hobbies (surfing and climbing) there is no way Andrew would ever settle for anything other than an upward trajectory.

Even after spending the day with him, Director Sam wasn’t entirely sure what Andrew did for a living. It lies somewhere in the realms of tech consultancy, but it was evident that that’s not where his passions lie. Andrew was put on this earth to give back to people. As a kid coming from Detroit, he was the first in his family to go to college – an opportunity he said wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his Mom and his Grandparents. He recognizes that that kind of opportunity doesn’t happen for everyone, and knows that in Detroit right now, there’s a kid like him desperate to break the norm, wanting to see themselves represented in outdoor culture.

‘If I wasn’t doing what I was doing now, I would probably be married in New England working in tech. But you know what? It sounds like a boring way to go.’

Driven, caring, talented and an all-round motivator, Andrew is the guy you need to come to when you need a nudge to take the plunge and live your life the way exactly as you want. He’s living proof that where there’s a will, there’s a way. Sometimes we all need that reminder.
